The Alliance for a Clean Environment (ACE) has slammed the Department of Environment and Conservations (DEC) new licence regime for the Brickworks industry. ACE claims that the DEC has ignored numerous public submissions on the new licences which are supported by 30 years of independent technical investigations that expose inadequate pollution controls and public health protection standards. ACE point out that the new licences do not require ambient monitoring for acid gases at any of the brickworks in WA, despite being identified in 2003 as the likely cause of the historical and ongoing health impacts.
